my point here isn’t about the music…
recent Stones Throw debate.
the luxury ltd. edition packages that they’ve been on recently vs. what they are ‘supposed’ to represent.
I’m keeping my opinions to myself as things are far too easily miscommunicated over the internet.
but,
‘diversification’ does not = ‘selling out’
does it?
Surely not.
Ultimately, I guess it depends whether the actual music warrants such beautiful packaging.
just thoughts anyway. & it’s madlib & guilty for medicine show pt. 1 so I’m guessing not many are going to complain musically.

this willl destroY. and it’s getting a release – February 8th. Thankgoodness a major hasn’t got involved otherwise we wouldn’t be seeing a release date until six months down the line when peaktime’s passed.
if your ears twitching it’s purely a dynamite vocal on ‘blunt edge‘ from zinc’s crack house EP. although that was cool, this has created a whole new animal. & one your more likely to enjoy unless you find the og more easier to watch face to. get it?

I told you i’d be perez hilton’ing every stage of the All City LA series. Take let this slip on soundcloud a couple of days ago – he’s sharing with matthewdavid & it’s due in february.
really like this – different to a lot of his recent material but it’s still him.
Mos Def on Deviation
Jan 27th
I finally got the chance to check out Mos on Deviation. illustrates what can be done with a 3hour show and a little bit more slack on the bbc’s creative reigns.
I took the liberty of uploading the show. don’t hate me for it.
MP3: Mos Def + Benji B on Deviation (17.01.10)
Wow @ the Charles Mingus cut at the end.
Marc Turlan x Nike
Jan 27th

French artist Marc Turlan was recently comissioned by Ricardo Tisci (fashion buffs..) to flip the Nike image his way.
the results can be seen in ‘A Magazine curated by. . . Ricardo Tisci‘ for 14 euros.
or (more likely) seen as jpg’s above.
what i’d do for these as posters.

leftback
Jan 26th
Little Brother prepare for full disbandment with their 4th LP ‘LeftBack‘ coming - 10th April.
Commercial numbers have never been what they should have, but i’m sure nearly all hiphop fans will testify to the effect these guys have had on the genre. I know for one, they have always been there to turn to, to remind me that at roots hiphop is about having fun. telling stories with style, effortless interplay and never a moment where I questioned their love for the music. I owe them a lot for some of the times they turned a dull day good just with a punchline or an adlib.
separate ways, but you know they’lll never be to far from where we need them to be.

Jacques Audiard’s new film ‘Un Prophete‘ – gettting praise from both the streets and the award ceremonys. best of both worlds. and if you like the look of this – there’s a healthy filmography to immerse yourself in.

Not too old and not too new, Finally Famous has been out for a hot second now. Dude can rap. He can actually make good songs too.
Kanye’s got his back. Pharrel’s onboard. With the G.O.O.D Music family supporting, and the Def Jam machine behind him, he definitely could be famous. ‘Specially with jams like this.
